After a long break in their nightly performances due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Under a campaign of “PHARE into the Future“, PHARE performance publicly appears big on the Journey to win the World Record of “The Longest Performance 24 hours and 1 minute in One Go”. This a Hybrid event means that the audience can in person visit the performances at the stage and watch from their own screen virtually. The main sponsor of this live and virtual event is the giant and matured Cellcard telecoms company.

The meaning in Khmer, the Brightness of the Arts – is a Cambodian non-profit arts school located in Battambang, offering support to children, youth and the surrounding communities through artistic, educational, social and community outreach and engagement programmes.
Over 1000 students are empowered every year through our schools and programmes: performing, visual and applied arts leisure classes, and vocational training aid children and young adults to develop their creativity, communication and concentration skills, and to access a sustainable artistic career whilst preserving and promoting Cambodian arts and culture.

Located in Battambang, a rich agricultural destination in Cambodia, Phare Ponleu Selpak was founded more than a quarter of a century ago, by nine Cambodians, who grew up in a refugee camp after surviving the genocide of the Khmer Rouge, and their French arts teacher. Resilience and hope has been in Phare’s DNA from the very beginning, and from a simple arts school it blossomed into the multi-faceted creative hub it is today.
Phare educates and trains thousands of children and youth who come from challenging backgrounds. Most receive a mainstream education which helps them thrive as adults, but others become artists, performers and musicians who keep Cambodia’s creative culture alive after its almost total destruction by the Khmer Rouge. We offer them social support, education and arts programs so they can build their future and support their families through creative careers.
Phare Circus Shows in Siem Reap
PHARE Circus is a social enterprise as a mean to raise fund for the Phare PS and also a place to reintegrate the circus artists. Naming themselves as the Siem Reap’s most unique, authentic top rated evening entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent.
Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak’s vocational training center in Battambang. Phare The Cambodian Circus offers these students and graduates somewhere to hone their skills and a place to earn a decent wage. Money that will take them out of poverty and give them self-respect and freedom.
PHARE into the Future Event Objectives
Over the years Phare has sought not to rely on handouts for our work and reached 60% financial self-sustainability through ticket sales to their celebrated and famous circus. Unfortunately, COVID-19 shut down most of everything that including Phare Circus performances and left them with a dramatic shortfall. Today Phare are very much concerned about their community and the most vulnerable who depend on the support of Phare on a daily basis. As and the only solution, they need to raise money to keep their life-saving, life-changing programmes alive during this crisis. That is why PHARE into the Future Virtual Event is here out to the world.
Sam, the author is the fan and supporter of PHARE circus performance before and since it first launched in Siem Reap. At work, he always included Phare Circus in the travel itinerary. At his social project AFK NGO known as Angkor Kids Center school, he often sends hundreds of his students to see and get inspired by the shows.
